A pair of housewife pillowcases - the plain kind, with a 15 cm flap inside the open end to hold the pillow in - in the 200-count percale. Pick the pillow size: 50 × 70 is the continental standard, 60 × 60 the square, 80 × 80 the large square used in Germany and Austria.
Most people buy a pair, sleep on them for a week and then order the cover. Percale creases, so the cases will look slept on by the second night.
